Gifts that the Heart Keeps..........

It is coming along to the time last year that my Mother passed away and I was looking at some old photos and thinking about how much I still love and miss her. I often ask in my workshops "what present do you remember most from your childhood?" This doll that my parents gave to me will always be in my mind. She had the most beautiful pink outfit and she was with me on many of my childhood journeys. She needs to be in a quilt! I hope you have a lovely memory of a gift you received once. What was it?

for my 40th birthday I received my dog.....she is the best present I have ever gotten. She is gentle, loving, and just wants to hang out with me all the time.

I was given that same doll, but because she was a "special" doll I didnt get to play with her. After my mom passed away 4 years ago, going through her things I found the "special" doll in her hope chest. I still miss my mom and sometimes have to stop myself from picking up the phone to try call her. She left me 33 unfinished, hand pieced quilt tops, she planned on quilting them "later".

I have that same doll, only her dress is blue. I found her tucked away in my moms hope chest after she passed away. I didnt get to play with her much as she was "special". I also found 33 hand pieced - hand appliqued quilt tops. Mom was a special lady and I still miss her so much. Even after 4 years, I have to stop myself from picking up the phone to try to call her.

OMGsh Mary Lou, I had the same doll. I received it for Christmas of 1957 when I was 10 years old. Her outfit was baby blue!

I had a similar doll but as I recall her dress was white and she was my "bride" doll.

She sat on top of my bed each day, I think I have a picture of her and I when I had the measles.

I agree that she needs to have a quilt to celebrate her and your mom.

Hold onto the the memories and they will keep her close to you.

I have a bryers colt that my mom gave me. When we were sick, she would get us a happy present and one time that was one of them. I still have it in my bedroom to remind me of how much she cared for us.

What a wonderful gift to have that picture. I really don't have any gifts that stand out in my mind ~ and although my mom's been gone for over 28 years the memories are still so very strong and I am thankful for that.

I am sending you love as you are coming up on the anniversary. My mom would make me homemade teddybears for Christmas on into my adult years and beautiful dresses.

My best special present was a Hawaian themed birthday party. Complete with leighs & Hawaian music playing on our little old record player. Mom always had way of making our birthdays special.
After 31 years of Mom being gone I still miss her. Sending you a big quilters hug!
