My Hippie days- art, fun and winning something here!

I just completed a quilt (full size) about the 60's and I did a large hippie girl, complete with a burning bra, a guitar and words plus loads of flowers and peace signs. I will show it once it is quilted and embellished-it'll be even better then. I have piles of jewelry with peace signs to sew on and the best beaded earrling to go inside the fabric ones on her ears. My daughter saw it today and put dibs on it. She said it is the coolest thing I have done! haha.
----------------------------------
I did posters to make money in those days and behind me is a poster I did for someone. I made good money doing posters for the fraternity guys that wanted full size posters of girls in bikini's. I also sold oil paintings to my Father's friends but I didn't make as much money doing that.

This is a photo of a photo so it probably isn't very good-Mark and I lived in this little apartment and this was me before I went to work-I remember watching the news about the Manson family....

My brother took this photo of me when I worked at the Bon Marche. I bought those bell bottoms and NO one here wore them yet and everyone thought I was nuts-I loved it

So I have four nice prizes that I will give away before I leave for Wyoming on the 15th. I will choose from people who leave comments in the next 10 days. You could win something cool.

Those pictures of you, are too fun.
I was not a good hippie, my father did not let us wear those types of clothes. I had one pair of cool pants, that my sister bought me, lol.

Loved the photos of you! And your hippie quilt (from the little I can see) is way cool. Can't wait to see more. Did you include a VW van with a peace sign in your quilt?

Great photos Mary Lou,

Did you ever wear hot pants? I did in the early 70's...so long ago but they were fun.

Also had fun in the bell bottoms, hey you could hide your shoes they were so broad.

Love your long hair and glasses!

Never been able to exude coolness.
More of a dork.
But a contented one.
Love art, love having fun and who doesn't want to win something? I'm not THAT much of a dork!
And P.S. ~ I'm working on my story quilt in my head yet. It will be the dorkiest, coolest quilt ever! Did I say cool?

Love the Hippie photos - Groovy!
I was a newlywed to a military guy. Was a secretary and had strict dress codes on UofAz Camus. No long hair or flowers in my hair but loved it all.

The early 70's were more fun for me with all the hot pants and great outfits as I was again a newlywed to a guy who loved it all. My grandkids can't believe the photos of us!

Can't wait to see the quilt when finished.

Those 60's photos cracked me up! What fun to look at them! I have some of those somewhere but would be hard-pressed to pinpoint them! I thought it was cool that you started a bell-bottom trend in your neck of the woods...who knew! I can't wait to see the whole quilt!

So, about those "hip-hugger","bell-bottom", PLAID, pants...was that a "body-suit" you were wearing, you know, the kind with snaps in the crotch that were a real pain most of the time? I had a bright yellow/gold body-suit that looked pretty good "in those days" along with my long straight hair. Hey, I was a CALIFORNIA GIRL after all.

Hi Mary Lou
I love the photos of you when you were young. Long hair, bell bottoms, big glasses...those were the days. Glad they're long gone :)

Mary Lou Weidman said...

Glad they are gone? Oh not me, I thought this was such an interesting time and full of our country's history and art at a peak of newness and clothing was fun and discovery everywhere-I guess today is kind of like that but I am not as young and my clothes aren't nearly as exciting...

Oh my gosh, I cannot wait to see your 60's quilt!!!! I KNOW it will be wild and colorful! I used to sew my clothes "way back when" and I had the best fitting pair of flair leg pants done in white with huge orange and yellow flowers all over them! Loved 'em! I was a "mother earth" type way back then. I still love flowing clothing, beads, sandals, and of course, mother nature!

I don't know Mary Lou, you looked like one foxy-chick! I'm sure that many of us could find a dated photo to display on our facebook page, too. Don't you wish you still had those vintage pants? Not that they would fit...Why is it that clothes shrink in the closet? My shoes do, too!

I sure do remember those days. Yea, if you were a little different then they did think you were nuts!
