Good News and Bad News and Good News

So day before yesterday my husband found out he has prostate cancer and will have surgery next month and will be home for four or five weeks. While I am sad he has cancer and has to have surgery I am happy we can be together and he doesn't have to go to work. The timing is good because I only have one quick trip to Seattle and then I am home. :0) We are both strong believers that everything that happens is all part of the divine plan and when our son was five he was diagnosed with leukemia in the years that the treatment was worse than the disease. We think this will be a piece of cake compared to the tears and times we both suffered and being under insured those years left our little family learning to do without. Now when my kids look back, they don't remember doing without and wishing that had more. I suffered thinking it was unfair that they didn't have the latest toy or cool clothes. It just goes to show you that LOVe can replace needs or wants to "things." It was a good lesson to learn early on. Now we'll see how our insurance does and if Mark can retire in a year and a half like he wanted to. I can live with anything as long as my family is together and happy. And we will all support Mark through this. :0)
I loved this little thing about pretty on the outside because my daughter is beautiful and people always tell me this. I see her beauty on the inside and how good she is for a daughter and a friend. That also goes for people that might not be attractive some people think but when you know their inside, they are just beautiful. I know so many wonderful quilters like that....so many beautiful beautiful souls. It is uplifting not to judge people by looks or what they have. Do you know what I mean???
Hey, it is almost time to bake those pies- don;t you just love pumpkin and pecan pie this time of year?
I am getting ready to go to Tahoe and quilt with friends. I am leaving you with this little photo of this nice couple. It might be a couple or a Mother and son...whatever it is, it is apparant there is love between them and if kind of melts me to see this as I love to see loving things and internalize them. Why? Because Love is a positive action and with all of the junk we see daly and things we listen to and petty little squabbles people get into where they want you to agree and say they are right. Stay OUT of things like this and you will be calmer and smarter and nicer to be around. Don't stir the pot and don't talk about others to make matters worse. You know the BIG dividend of this? You will be someone people want to be around and you will do better art! It's a fact! And while you are at it, laugh at something or find something to laugh at and give away compliements...they borh feed your soul. Hope you enjoyed bits and pieces of some of my quilts- I love you for stopping in and seeing what is new. I have much to be thankful for and as I tell students I try to add then things a day. I am thankful for the gorgeous leaves outdoors, the laughter of my Grandson when I try to kiss him and he runs, oatmeal with blueberries and pecans, good smelling hand cream, an email from a friend, fresh tomatoes ( I still have a few left), my husband of 43 years, cool fabric, good smelling sheets that hang outdoors, and a great neighbor named Connie. Blessing to you until I write in another week!

Always an uplift to read your blog and your encouraging others, now even in the midst of your current health scare with Mark. I know this must be a scary time for you and just want you to know your "girlfriends" you have met along your quilting journey are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. Praying for an inner strength and peace through the One who is the Giver of all!

Hugs to you and your hubby! He will be on all our prayer lists but I have a super strong feeling that he will be fine. My ex father-in-law had that and after his surgery he was fine. No problems for 15 years now. You are right about being grateful! Always thinking of how lucky we all are! When I stop and think that, in my cozy little house, I live better than most of the people who EVER lived! I have running water and air conditioning. I can get in my car and drive to a grocery store and get fresh food! I have beautiful fabric that I bought from all over the world by clicking a mouse. I have color television that informs and entertains me. I have the best health care on the planet ever! I live better than kings and queens of old with all their servants and their gold. Amazing! Give your hubby a hug from me!

I can't believe you don't get comments!! My friend and I were at your lecture in Memphis--what a great evening. We decided to make story quilts about how we met our husbands. We're putting our ideas together and are very excited. Thanks for coming.

Hi Mary Lou,

What a wonderful post, I know you and Mark with join forces with your family for his fight to regain his health.

Great pictures as always and so many great quotes.

I'm at a retreat myself this weekend and working on my Christmas ornament exchange tree. Having fun figuring out how to quilt it. I'll send you a picture when I get it finished.

Enjoying the lovely autumn colours and enjoying some long o Effie rain. I can hear some geese cackling outside on the lake.

Our neighbor who is 62 just had prostate cancer surgery. He is just fine now, clean bill of health. He was freaked out at first, then when we reminded him we just went through something similar two years ago with my husband that had colon cancer at the age of 43, that helped calm him down and think more positive. Will be thinking of you and your family.

My dad had prostate cancer - he was diagnosed when he was 67. At 78 he passed away from complications of taking prednisone for emphasema. After his surgery, the cancer was never an issue. Sending prayers to your husband and you.
