Facts to Make You Think! Please Comment

My brother was a math major and he told me he had a Priest teacher that called God the "Mathematician in the sky". After reading this, I think He is! I've never given most of this a thought!!!! This posting was sent to me on my email by my cousin Patty.
God's accuracy may be observed in the hatching of eggs. For example:-the eggs of the potato bug hatch in 7 days;-those of the canary in 14 days;-those of the barnyard hen in 21 days;-
The eggs of ducks and geese hatch in 28 days;-those of the mallard in 35 days;
-The eggs of the parrot and the ostrich hatch in 42 days.(Notice, they are all divisible by seven, the number of days in a week!)
God's wisdom is seen in the making of an elephant... The four legs of this great beast all bend forward in the same direction. No other quadruped is so made.
God planned that this animal would have a huge body, too large to live on two legs... For this reason He gave it four fulcrums so that it can rise from the ground easily.
The horse rises from the ground on its two front legs first.
A cow rises from the ground with its two hind legs first.
God's wisdom is revealed in His arrangement of sections and segments, as well as in the number of grains.-
Each watermelon has an even number of stripes on the rind.-
Each orange has an even number of segments.-Each ear of corn has an even number of rows.-
Each stalk of wheat has an even number of grains.-
Every bunch of bananas has on its lowest row an even number of bananas, and each row decreases by one, so that one row has an even number and the next row an odd number.-
The waves of the sea roll in on shore twenty-six to the minute in all kinds of weather.
All grains are found in even numbers on the stalks, and the Lord specified thirty fold, sixty fold, and a hundred fold - all even numbers.
God has caused the flowers to blossom at certain specified times during the day, so that Linnaeus, the great botanist, once said that if he had a conservatory containing the right kind of soil, moisture and temperature, he could tell the time of day or night by the flowers that were open and those that were closed!
I HOPE YOU FIND THIS AS FASCINATING AS I DID
I have some fabrics nicely stacked and will give six lucky people who comment on this a nice package in their mail! You have two weeks

SPOKANE QUILT SHOW!EXCITING! COLORFUL, CREATIVE IDEAS, FUN, AWE'S AND OH'S- THAT IS OUR YEARLY QUILT SHOW WITH TONS OF QUILTS AND MERCHANTS!

I love all quilts and I thought this was just lovely in so many ways....wish it was mine-there is still time to go to the show this weekend!
Each basket was done in a beautiful way...would love time to do something like this but not now
Here is a quilt that someone did using my "Chicken Soup" designs and her own setting. It still would have been nice if she had said she used my pattern as an inspiration....she didn't. I do love the quilt though--
The quilter below was in charge of the HUGE show and she is still smiling. This is Kathy Wood who is my quilter and quilts most everything I do here in Spokane. She is very patient with me.
Karen Brown is below (I must have been nervous and moved the camera-sorry_) she is a lovely person and oh so talented with her quilting!
The featured quilter was Karen Brown who is an awesome quilter. Look at her stitches in the quilt below and above! This quilt was darling and a pattern from Quiltmaker inspired the quilter.Isn't it cute?
The quilt below was very graphic and had alot of details that were wonderful. You can't tell but the quilting was excellent also. Very different and unique and I love that!
I once did a box of chocolates for one of my quilts about my Grandmother and now I am inspired to do another one....I love this little quilt!
I thought the quilt below was very funny and oh so true for some of us.....
The nice thing about the Spokane show is there are always around 600 quilts and tons of merchants and the quilts are great and it is honestly one of the best quilt shows in the US. I should know, I go to loads of them every year. Talk about variety and nice quilters. It is always in oct and you really should attend sometime. You wouldn't be sorry.
Many of you who have heard my lecture know my funny story about my puff quilt I made 28 years ago. I had to get a photo of this for a memory if nothing else.
I do not know this man but what a great quilt and a memory about him....lovely
Did you ever go to a shooting range? I think this quilt is one of the coolest ones I have ever seen. It is part of one of the Hoffman challenges and it gets my vote for the winner in every way!
Rick rack always improves a quilt!
As usual there were some very funny quilts too
This had tons and tons of quilting and just the part you see is about a full size quilt and it is probably queen size with the part I didn't get in-it is huge! Someone LOVES Lions
I adored this border of the quilt below...isn't it lovely?
I love historical quilts and this one was a beauty and they gave Sue Garman credit-she lives in Texas and is a very talented designer
This is one of those quilts that in person, you could not get far back from it and it was loud and busy and once I took a photo and could look at it calmly as one quilt, I adored it!
I adored the white beads as an embellishment here since I use loads of beads on my quilts!
Isn't this the perfect quilt for any little boys room? I loved this!
He who doesn't love little boy's turcks? Last year I created a whole line of fabric for Benartex that was called "Where the Boys are". It had alot of trucks that look similar to this and I thought would be so much fun for little boys quilts and pillowcases!

OK, Here is your chance to make a wonderful FRENCH Memory- come with me!

Can you imagine doing a journal out of fabric of this? Is this wonderful or what?
Above is the Farmhouse where we will be staying, note the lavendar and flowers and darling turquoise shutters-already I see things to sketch for my first journal page!
-----------------------------------------------------------
So I want to share what you could be doing with me next summer as we tour and do painted and small appliqued quilts about our trip like little journals. Once they are painted, we add floss of beautiful colors on top and beads for texture. Fabulous and a good art representation of our adventure. Think you aren't an artist? Let me prove you wrong! One lady is going to take a blouse apart and bring it to journal on it and sew it together later on to wear and share her trip! I plan to do a small appliqued hanging for my entry Hall and then paint some journal pieces (easy and I will teach you!) to either be little quilts or pillows on your sofas or other pieces of furniture. GREAT fun and creativity!
Here is what Bev our main hostess has to say about our trip!
Petit Rousset, which you will call home during the Workshop, is a 17thcentury farmhouse and grange (barn) that we have restored and renovated. Each large guest room has a private bathroom and a second sink tuckedinto a corner. That means that EACH roommate has her own sink - which make'sgetting ready for each day's activities so much faster! We will provide a change of sheets and towels mid-stay.The bathrooms will be tidied and waste baskets emptied every other day. We'll have Breakfast in the Dining Room and Dinner on the Terrace. Our Daily Buffet Breakfast includes:Coffee or TeaFruit JuiceFresh FruitDried FruitBreads and baked goods with butter, jams and jelliesCerealTwo types of protein - cheese and ham OR cheese and hard boiled eggsOR ham and hard boiled eggsDinner - a sample menu:Salad with Chevre Chaud (green salad with a slice or two of meltedgoat cheese on toasts - a French classic and delicious)Roast chicken with ratatouille (sauted zucchini, eggplant, red & greenbell peppers, onions and tomatoes)Tarte Tatin (apple pie)All served with regional wine.As you know, we'll be in France for Bastille Day (14 July). We'll gather with locals to watch the fireworks display over theDordogne River. The fireworks are amongst the most beautiful I have ever seen. We're also going to the Annual Basket Fair in the tiny village ofIssigeac. The fair is held once a year, on the Sunday after Bastille Day.Basket makers from all over France (and elsewhere) come to the fair toshow their baskets and demonstrate their basket making skills. Each basket has a specific purpose and particular weave. It is my absolute favorite fair of all - and the baskets are simply exquisite. You'll see the ones I've been purchasing over the years as I have them displayed throughout the farmhouse. Sunflowers and lavendar will be at full bloom for colorful photos and great sniffs while you enjoy the area. Antique shops and things to see and look at as well as things to bring home if you wish.
Although I'm not a travel agent, if you have questions about travel,I'm happy to try to answer them. For people stopping in Paris on the way to or from the workshop, I amhappy to recommend hotels where I have stayed in Paris. At the beginning of the workshop, we meet you in Bordeaux. No airline flies directly from the United States to Bordeaux.Depending upon which airline you fly - you will fly into a Europeangateway city and then onto Bordeaux.(Lufthansa flies into Frankfurt or Munich and then to Bordeaux; KLMflies to Amsterdam and then to Bordeaux, Iberia flies to Madrid andthen to Bordeaux, Air France and any US airlines (United, Delta, etc)flies to Paris and then to Bordeaux.)If you are flying into Paris and planning to stay there a few daysbefore the workshop, you might want to consider taking the fast train(TGV) from Paris to Bordeaux. At the conclusion of the workshop, we take you to BergeracFrom Bergerac you can take a train back to Bordeaux or on to Paris ortake the train in the opposite direction to explore other parts ofFrance, or rent a car and continue your travels that way. There is also an airport in Bergerac and you can fly from there to anumber of European destinations. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.REMEMBER TO SIGN UP BY JANUARY 31, 2011 TO SAVE $100.Rosemary and Mary Lou are planning a wonderful workshop and we lookforward to welcoming you to the south of France.A bientot (See you soon!)BeverlyBeverly Held, Ph.D.DirectorSF Seminars - Le Petit RoussetUSA:(1)415.933.9799FR: 33.(0)5 53 22 05 89rousset-perigord.orginfo@rousset-perigord.org
Does this sound exciting or what? I have an excellent travel agent that I have used for years when I go to Europe and I am happy to share her name and email with anyone who is interested. Personally I like to go into Munich, spend a day there enjoying the main squarem have dinner go to bed and grab the train to Bordeaux. I have gone on the fast train from both Munich and Paris on different trips and it is alot of fun, clean and exciting! This will surely be something you can remember and be remembered for with the artwork we plan to do as we relax and enjoy the five senses around us!

What will you leave as a lasting memory?????

So I often feel like I am harping about getting your memories and stories about yourself down and into quilts so other people will know about you and details about your past like school, playtime friends, little tea parties or pretend or kick the can, pick up straws, pin the tail games etc....remember roller skate keys? Sew them on a story quilt so they don't go in the garbage...and Scout pins and other treasures.
Last week my Aunt said "what will memories am I leaving?" She did not say this to me but to her daughter and a friend. My aunt has terminal lung cancer. I was so touched by this because this was exactly the thing my Mother said her last week before she died. She asked me to put at least three of her memories into small quilts for her.
October 30th, my Aunts friend is having a High Tea and we are all to bring something that has a tie to a memory. Now I have many things like this because this is how I think. I love memories and I teach memories and I thrive on hearing them and helping do quilts about them.
I am writing this because I want YOU to think about that question. What memories will you be leaving for generations to know something about YOUR life and the people and the things you love. A quilt or a work of art might be just a work of art but if you put people and things into your quilts, they are diary pieces.
Wonder how to do it? Get any one of my books from me or Amazon and make your very own story quilt about YOU and leave a piece so that you are leaving memories for others to enjoy and think about. Think about this, it is important....as important as you and YOUR own story.

Cupcakes get the candy treatment as we carve...we also had skeleton suckers, candies that looked like ears, mouths, brains, noses, fingers and feet as well as crackers and cheese, popcorn, and oozing candy that has juice in the pieces....perfect for boys who love adventure and fun-the girls passed on some of the stuff...... Above was my Granddaughter's work of art that she ate. :0)
This is what the scary pumpkin looked like before he dropped it on the floor! An older red pepper that was shriveling in the refrig. was the perfect fix for this pumpkin that needed a new nose! And the good news is that it will be even more shriveled by Halloween!
Below is MacGregor's pumpkin before the nose was carved....he wanted a scary skeleton looking pumpkin to rival his cousin's-those boys! This is before the nose broke when he dropped it
These two pumpkins were the work of my Granddaughters who loved the "normal" look of Jack'Lanterns....me too! Haha Love the arched eyebrows that make the one on the left look joyful! Just like my Grandkids!
Can you tell this is a boys pumpkin? Fiendish and eats little people......
In case you didn't read the earlier blog, last week we went to the pumpkin farm and this week I was at home after church and had four of my Grandchildren over for lunch and carving and fun.
The day was lovely though it rained outside we created warmth and love inside and memories....such fun to be with young kids. Hey, if you want to stay young at heart and joyful, hang out with a room full of happy kids. That's my best advice.

Look At This for GREAT TAGS for Your Holiday Gifts or Other Ideas!

You can click on this to make it larger. My friend Wendy owns this wonderful company and can you imagine pillowcases with the tag that says "I Love You" in it or any of her darling tags-so many good ideas and if you met Wendy you would love her. She is good at Joyology!

Taking My Dog Out for Lunch, I Don't See As Well as I Used To

My Garden "just yesterday" and saying " goodbye" to my arbour, trumpet vine- a recipe site you will love!

So it came time this year to hook up to the sewer. And in doing so I had to get rid of my lovely arbour (15 years old) and the trumpet vine that grew so happliy over it. I also had to get rid of a weeping cherry tree and a huge hydrangew-how did I know they were being planted right over the place they needed to hook up? So today it looks bare there and I am planning a new arbour with clematis and trumpet vines. And a new weeping tree of some kind. That's the thing about gardens, they go through the stages of life just like we do and so you need to enjoy each stage as it comes. :0) There are alot of life's lessons out there.
I know that it is Fall and everything is pumpkins but I have these photos and I am going to delete them so my computer doesn't crash and I wanted to share. The photos below are of Manito Park here in Spokane and the photos above are of my garden. I love gardening and flowers and dirt and the smells and sites of anything growing. A seed into a miricle.
Hey, if you love garden recipes, this blog has a great pepper recipe for sweet peppers for crackers or on sausages or a million other things. I highly recommend this site-thank you Carol Baker for sharing it with me!http://farmerfredrant.blogspot.com/2010/10/too-many-peppers-try-this-relish-recipe.html
